about us

Scholars Leading Scholars (SLS) is a USC student organization dedicated to enhancing academic opportunity in the University Park neighborhood. We value the cultivation of relationships between SLS members, local high school students, and educators as a means of empowering all members of our community. Through tutoring and mentorship, we seek to equip students with the necessary resources to excel in all facets of their lives. Most importantly, we strive to prepare young adults for the rigors of college so that they may succeed long after they graduate from high school.

We hold weekly sessions at local high schools, covering a variety of college preparatory materials. Our main focus, however, is to build strong relationships between local high school students and USC students that will enrich not only the educational experience for all, but form bonds that will last beyond the SLS sessions.

sarah berry • director

Sarah is a junior double majoring in Cinema and Media Studies and Narrative Studies. She has been with SLS since her freshman year.

Jake is a junior from Chicago studying Business and Cinematic Arts. This coming spring will mark two years with the Scholars Leading Scholars program.

Lucas hu • director of curriculum

Lucas is a sophomore in Viterbi studying Computer Science and Business, with a Mathematics minor. Outside of class, he spends his time helping out in the Teamcore AI Lab, playing pickup basketball, and binge watching cooking shows on YouTube.

Cyrus khandalavala • director of communications

Cyrus Khandalavala is a USC junior double majoring in International Relations/Global Economics and Comparative Literature. His academic interests include institutional reform and finance for development, as well as Latin American films and literatures. Outside of class, Cyrus writes about international issues, volunteers in his community, reads long novels, watches short movies, and goes to concerts."

Lauren Walker is a sophomore majoring in International Relations/Global Business and Economics. Outside of SLS, she is also involved in the Trojan Scholars Society, her work on campus, and enjoys traveling. This will be her second year involved in Scholars Leading Scholars, and she is excited to see what the future holds for this organization! 

Hannah zhao • social director

Hannah Zhao is a junior majoring in health and human sciences with a minor in psychology. She has a passion for bringing her expertise and knowledge to her surrounding communities, and hopes to impact as many students as possible in the upcoming year.
