Kaushik Parvathaneni • Co-Chair

Kaushik Parvathaneni is a junior majoring in Human Biology and minoring in Cinema-TV. A native of Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Australia, and recently Seattle, WA, Kaushik was ecstatic to be given the chance to complete his undergraduate education in a new city, Los Angeles. He has developed a love for travel and enjoys experiencing the many cultures of the world. Kaushik's passion for pushing the boundaries of science and medicine motivates him as a research assistant at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. He also loves to teach and is a tutor for both Teach for Los Angeles and off-campus for The Princeton Review. In his free time Kaushik enjoys spending time with friends and can often be found exploring new food throughout the city. Kaushik values what the Trojan Scholars Society stands for and hopes his contributions will further enrich the experiences of the recipients of USC’s most prestigious scholarships.


Sarayu Caulfield • Co-Chair

Sarayu Caulfield is a sophomore from Portland, Oregon, pursuing Business Administration, with a double minor in Music Industry and Computer Programming. She has served on TSS’s executive board since her freshman year and is excited to be able to plan events and activities for the greater TSS community. At USC, Sarayu is also a member of Delta Omicron Zeta, a co-educational leadership fraternity. Independently, she has conducted research on the effects of media multitasking on working memory, which was featured on The Wall Street Journal and the American Academy of Pediatrics. This past summer, she interned at M. Haydon Inc., helping organize the world tours of DreamWorks Animation in Concert and The Harry Potter Film Concert Series. In her free time, Sarayu likes to longboard, play the guitar, attend music festivals, and attempt to replicate Tasty recipes. Sarayu looks forward to planning new events for TSS and communicating with other scholars to create lasting memories.


Cooper Yerby • Director of Academic & Professional Committee

Cooper Yerby is a sophomore from Utah who is pursuing a condensed progressive B.S./M.S. Degree in Geological Sciences. He is a co-captain of the SC Squash team, and is extensively involved in research on and off of campus. In the past, Cooper led the design and construction of a museum exhibit pertaining to water sustainability and interned with the Burns & McDonnell engineering firm. He has authored two publications about the causes of chronic gastroenteritis in southern Bangladesh and is currently conducting astrobiology research with USC and JPL. Cooper enjoys exploring new places, eating unusual foods, spending time outside, and making friends. He looks forward to making everlasting memories and connections with fellow members of TSS and cannot wait to assist scholars in achieving their goals at USC.


Hima Rajana • Director of Service Committee

Hima Rajana is a sophomore from the beautiful Bay Area, California. She is pursuing a degree in Neuroscience and minors in Social Entrepreneurship and Computer Programming. In the past, she has served on the TSS Executive board as a Freshman Representative and a member of the Social Committee. This year, Hima is excited to return as the Director of Service. She hopes to expand TSS's role in the South Los Angeles community. Apart from TSS, Hima is involved with the USC Helenes, a spirit and service organization, serving as one of the official hostesses of the university. She is also a counselor with USC Troy Camp, a USC Dornsife Ambassador, and a trip lead with Peaks and Professors (hike with her!). She is a social and affective neuroscience research assistant at the Brain and Creativity Center. In her free time, she enjoys conquering LA's mountains, dreaming up endless combinations of sweet and savory oatmeal, and looking up photos of cute dogs.

Lizzy Patton • Co-Director of Social Committee

Lizzy Patton is a freshman Biology major with a minor in Medical Anthropology from LA County, California. Before becoming Co-Director of the Social Committee, she worked as a member of the Social Committee, which is where she began her interest in and involvement with the USC scholar community. Outside of TSS, Lizzy is a Science Outreach session leader and leads science experiments for a third grade classroom at Mack Elementary School. This semester, she is also the Community Building Chair for GlobeMed here on campus, acting as the liaison between the USC organization and our local partner, LA Green Grounds, who works to lessen food insecurity in South LA neighborhoods through urban gardening and community outreach. Additionally, Lizzy is very interested in research and is a member of the Forsburg Lab where she is currently doing work on genetics and gene mutation in a fission yeast model organism. In her free time, Lizzy loves to hunt down interesting food spots in LA, hike with her dog, and go to museums or shows. Lizzy is excited to organize engaging, inclusive, and unique social events that all TSS members can enjoy!


Lauren Walker • Co-Director of Social Committee

Lauren Walker is currently a freshman pursuing an International Relations/Global Business degree with Philosophy and Spanish minors from Orange County, CA. She has previously served as an Academic Committee member within TSS and is now the Co-Director of the Social Committee. Lauren also serves on the executive boards of Scholars Leading Scholars and USC Model United Nations. Outside of school, she loves to travel, work out, and explore LA. In her upcoming years at USC, she would love to have the opportunity to study abroad for a semester and potentially adopt another major.

Isabella Ortiz • Director of Marketing Committee

Isabella Ortiz is a freshman from San Diego, California (and is incredibly grateful that she grew up in a place where people literally go to vacation). She is currently pursuing a Communication major with minors in Computer Programming and Web Technologies. She is a dedicated member and Blogging Chair for Helenes and loves serving her community and university as well as spreading her Trojan prideshoutout to Helenes Gatecall for those front-row football seats. Beyond directing TSS’s Marketing Committee with the help of her amazing and talented committee member, Julia Erickson, Isabella works as a remote intern for bSmart Guide, where she participates in art direction, editorial processes, and website operations. She’s also an aspiring globetrotter who enjoys exploring other cultures (especially the food!), an avid collector of pretty stationery, and a firm believer that handwritten snail mail is severely underrated.

Julia Erickson • Marketing Committee Member

Julia Erickson is a freshman majoring in Business Administration and minoring in Mathematical Finance and Communication Design. In addition to serving on and creating graphics for the TSS Marketing Committee, Julia is the Photo Editor at The Daily Trojan and a volunteer for Visions & Voices. Julia is from San Diego, and outside of school, she enjoys alternative rock music, traveling, the beach, and photography. She's excited about taking on this position to help TSS maintain its reputation of greatness.


Hailey Ordal • Service Committee Member

Hailey Ordal is a freshman from Oregon double majoring in Economics/Mathematics and Central European Studies. She is passionate about economics, writing articles for the USC Economics Review and working as a research assistant in the Economics department at USC. Outside of USC, Hailey runs T1 Dynamite, a support group that she founded for youth with type 1 diabetes in the Southern Oregon region.  In her free time, Hailey enjoys playing the piano, working out, traveling, and spending time with her family. She is excited to be part of the TSS Service Committee and is looking forward to planning projects that will give students many opportunities to serve.


Sarah Berry • Service Committee Member

Sarah Berry is a sophomore from Bloomington, Indiana majoring in Narrative Studies. She works on college preparation with a local high school as the director of Scholars Leading Scholars and advocates for renewable energy on campus as the leader of the Environmental Core’s Go Solar campaign. In the past she has interned for the Indiana Democratic Governor’s campaign and the California Public Interest Research Group. An avid ballroom dancer, she can often be found practicing for competitions or fundraising in a variety of creative ways. As a proud Disney annual passholder, she enjoys going to Disneyland and eating excessive amounts of Dole Whip.


Colleen Sweeney • Social Committee Member

Colleen Sweeney is a freshman from the Chicago, IL area. She is currently majoring in Health and Human Sciences with a minor in Spanish. When she is not helping to plan events with TSS, she plays flute in the Trojan Marching Band and is a Dornsife Ambassador. Outside of USC, she volunteers at California Hospital as a COPE Health Scholar and is working towards her dream of becoming a doctor. Colleen loves to explore LA in her free time and binge Netflix with her friends. She is looking forward to helping TSS members to get to know each other and become more involved!


Emily Liu • Academic Committee Member

Emily Liu is a freshman double majoring in English Literature and Political Economics, with a pre-professional emphasis in law. Originally from Palo Alto, California, she studied abroad at an international school in Beijing, China for 8 years, and while it was a culturally rewarding experience, she was happy to return home for her undergraduate studies. Emily is hoping to attain a law degree in the future, and is excited to begin internships during the summer abroad. Currently, she is involved in Scholars Leading Scholars and Badminton club at USC, and she is hoping to join the Daily Trojan next semester. In her free time, she likes to read and explore different restaurants in the city with friends. Emily absolutely loves the academic environment at USC –the friendly competitiveness that pushes people on, but never reaches a point of hostility—and hopes that her contributions to TSS can help further foster this environment.
